complementary to my former proposal

Here is the content of my personal podcast:
I plan to divide all the content I want to deliver into probably 3-5 episodes of podcasts. In the first episode, as you might’ve already heard it, it is something about my family that I was born in a business family, my high school life that I had made some pocket money through a digital media way, and my college life that I had created a DV movie with a bunch of friends and my early thoughts on pursuing graduate study in U.S.A oversea. I kind of think that the content somehow reflects my professional skills, area of interest and ways of thinking. As a continuance to the first episode, I will probably create other podcasts one once a month – neither too long nor too short, and the content might focus on my shool life in U.S.A, such as the MCDM programs, and things I did for myself as well as the program. The length of each podcast might be the same lasting 1-2 minutes, brief and concise enough for HR to consume. The targeted audience of my podcast will be very niche, only for HR and whoever wants to know little bit more about me. As Kathy said, it is sort of like the personal branding concept. So, these podcasts could be considered as complementary to my paper resume or Bios.
The reason to subscribe to these podcasts is that you can always find something you don’t know about me other than stuff on the resume. These experiences or little stories on the podcasts might express my personalities better. But if you’re not interested, it is still fine by me because I still got my resume, Bios, and linkedin profile. Keep in mind, all these podcasts are just complementary to my podcasts.

I checked on the digital podcast site (http://www.digitalpodcast.com/) today, and had read this article about want to make money with your podcast. I followed the link provided by the author and a fancy-looking site immediately poped up. (http://www.podcastsecrets.com/previewcall/) Then, I noticed that the site offers several different podcasts on the issue of monetizing your podcasts. (more…)

Blog:

One of the blog sites that I monitor is called: the engaging brand blog (http://theengagingbrand.typepad.com/). One of the reasons that I chose to monitor this blog is because of that the author seems to have some social media backgrounds and her comprehension on various brands always come from the social media perspective. I had Found a podcast which fits the genre of our intro podcasts of the MCDM program.  I think this episode to be useful because of following reasons.

First, you need to decide on the right music. If you’re doing a company or a intro podcast, corporate music (horns, strings, woodwinds) usually fits the case.
After you’ve decided on the music for your intro, a brief opening is needed. Something like, “Podcasting from **, Seattle ***Hello, I’m *** and blablabla.” Establish a few seconds of your music before pulling the music volume down slightly to read your introduction. And then it’s nice to have a few seconds of music to finish up the intro.

Last but not least, it’s important that you use royalty-free music for your intro. Anything else other than royalty-free music could get you sued by the recording artist.

Revised- draft personal podcast

I want to create series of job application podcasts which will focus on telling HR or anyone who’s interested in me about my past and something I’ve accomplished which makes me qualified for the position I am about to apply for.

Also, these podcasts will basically serve as the supplementary information on my written resume or autobiography on my blog. Considering the limited time that HR gives each applicant, these podcasts will remain short and focus primarily on one period or single incidence which might reflect my past experience or skills. Class reflection: How to get your audience to suscribe to your RSS feeds.

In the podcasting class, we’ve talked and shared a lot about how to define a podcast, how a successful podcast would be potentially beneficial to your business, all kinds of technologies and techniques are required to create a podcast and etc.

As I see, all those areas we touched in class are mostly focusing on the MP3 or let’s say content level. However, without  a certain amount of people who will be willing to be your audiences or in other words suscribing to your RSS feed, your works are vain. In this cast, the most important factor to a successuful podcast is a certain amount of suscribers to reach the influence you want. (more…)

draft personal podcast

I want to create series of job application podcasts which will focus on telling HR or anyone who’s interested in me about my past and something I’ve accomplished which makes me qualified for the position I am about to apply for.

To make these podcasts professional, I’ve decided to follow some podcasting tips provided by the author of HTDE, Shel Holtz:

1 Forget about your concept and thinking about your audience.

Since my targeted audience will be mostly HR and head hunters, I tend to think that they will not only be interested in all those hard&cold data in my cv, but also little story or incident happened to me which might help them get to know my personalities and practical skills better. Also, some personal thoughts about the company or the industry I’m interested in working for might give HR different angle to measure if i’m the right guy they are looking for.

2 Drilling down another level based on your previous thinking.

In this step, I will think about how HRs or head hunters will likely want to consume my podcasts. I am assuming that they will consume my podcasts from my personal blogs, job-searching website and etc.

3 Designed a show that’s right for your audiences.

a My job application podcasts will mostly focus on some interesting things I’ve done, such as doing short films with my colleagues, and experience that I would like to share, such as my learning experience in my former university, harvard summer school and UW. (This might vary depending on types of jobs I will likely to apply for)

b I guess 2-3 minutes podcasts would be a desirable length for me – neither too short to express my stuff, nor to lenthy to bore my targeted audiences.

c Talking about frequency, I prefer to a weekly show

d For feedbacks, I would send a practice podcast to each of my friends who’s  HR to determine whether or or not the podcast  is effective.
